Iceland Wants to Be Your FriendThe Icelandic Tourist Board asked us to come up with some good ideas to use what some people like to call "social media" to promote Iceland.
So that's what we did are doing.
In short, Iceland Wants to Be Your Friend is an experiment in using fancy machines and good, old-fashioned brains to get people talking about Iceland.
Its guiding principle is this quote from Hugh Macleod: “If you talked to people the way advertising talks to people, they’d punch you in the face.”

Iceland ExpressThis cheeky upstart low-fare airline started operating in 2004 and now flies to Iceland from about 18 cities in Europe.
We write, produce and direct the Iceland Express newsletter in English (and designed the template for the one in Icelandic). We manage their rather fun blog about Iceland in English. And we also make sure they make friends and influence people on Twitter and Facebook.
We might also mention that as an employee of Iceland Express, Takk Takk's founder directed the architecture, content and design of their complex of websites (including a bit of the booking system), newsletters, transactional email, and the rather fun blog about Iceland we mentioned earlier. The whole thing has won awards as the best Icelandic ecommerce site and, believe it or not, the world's best low-cost airline website.

Reykjavík Museum of PhotographyThe Reykjavík Museum of Photography has over 5 million photos from the history of Reykjavík and Iceland is its archive.
Once a week, we send select one of them, pair it with a clever quote from somewhere. Then we send it in an email to subscribers, as well as posting it on Facebook and Twitter.

Vín og maturVín og matur (Wine and Food) is a small, family-owned importer of fine wine and food. It was founded in 2004 by a young, smart and disturbingly attractive couple who on moving back to Iceland after several years in Tuscany and Boston found their home country somewhat lacking in the wine and food department.
From the beginning, Takk Takk has helped Vín og matur make friends and influence people on the Internet. Their website, designed by us back in the days, has always been central to their business, and their newsletter, now in its fifth year, even more so. Back in 2004 we helped them become one of the first companies to start a blog. They also use Flickr and YouTube regularly and are now starting to focus on Facebook. All of which is only natural since their business lends itself perfectly to the kind of transparent, social nature of the web.

Frú Lauga Farmer's MarketRemember Vín og matur? (Hint: it's up there.) Well, Frú Lauga is brought to you by the same people. A Reykjavík shop bringing good produce directly from good farmers to good people, they do practically no traditional advertising.
We did what we usually do, helped them set up a simple website, an active and lively Facebook Page, and a rather good looking newsletter (even if we do say so ourselves).

Express ferðirExpress ferðir is a travel agency owned by Iceland Express. For them, Takk Takk manages a robust and well-performing little email newsletter in Icelandic that we send out once or twice a month.
Custom Photo LabCustom Photo Lab is exactly what it says it is: a custom photo lab. It is owned and cared for by Stuart Richardson, an American photographer and printer who has lived, worked and studied in New York, Sapporo and Vladivostok, but likes Iceland much more. At his lab in Reykjavík he has assembled some of the best equipment in the world for developing and printing photos, and he looks forward to putting to good use for people who are passionate about photography and want the best possible quality of work.
For Custom Photo Lab, Takk Takk does lots of things. (We'll tell you about them later.)

Sterling AirlinesSterling is was one of Scandinavia's biggest low-fare airlines, carrying about 3m passengers a year. In 2007 it got the award for the best travel website in Denmark.
As an employee of Sterling, the director of Takk Takk was responsible for User Experience, which is a fancy way of saying that he tried to make the site better. He also managed their biweekly email newsletter, sent to almost one million subscribers in four languages.
In an unforeseen turn of events, Sterling later went bankrupt. Oops. (It wasn't our fault.)
We want to work for you. And as luck would have it, we are available for work from January 2011.
So get in touch with us. We don't bite.
